The answer is simple, we love it! We enjoy the slow and peaceful breakfasts, the long walks, the new experiences, places, people, and memories. They make us feel happy we are alive. No wonder! Travelling seems to combine most of the habits of healthy people. Scientists have proven that travelling is good for both your body and your mind! Perhaps this is why we love it. Because we feel that a few minutes in the sun, chatting face-to-face with people through cam chat, raise our vitamin D levels and improve our mood. Vitamin D has its health benefits too - it is good for our hearts.
1. To enjoy experiences over things
One of the greatest lessons you’ll learn through travel is that we need very little to be happy. And it’s not cars, phones or clothes that make us happy – it’s our experiences. A study published in the Journal of Psychological Science revealed that experiences provide more lasting happiness than material possessions. A Trafalgar study showed that 74% of people would rather have experiences over things. When you travel, you’ll form strong bonds with people, learn new skills and create lasting memories.
2. Travel teaches us: To leave our comfort zone
If you always stay at home and simply flit between work and home, you’re not really leaving your comfort zone. You’ve found a comfortable routine in your life where your heart doesn’t need to skip a beat all that often. Travelling brings about the opposite effect. You are forced to leave your comfort zone whether you like it or not, because you are in a new country with a new culture and things are different. You are leaving behind friends, familiar foods, and often a familiar language. Entering a new territory, however, is exhilarating. There is no better feeling than expanding your horizons and coming home with endless stories.
3. Making Yourself Understood
Dealing with people in other languages whether you are trying to speak their language or they’re trying to use yours is often not an easy thing to do. Patience is required for effective communication. Perhaps you need to take the time to look up some words in a phrase book or online, or you need to draw a sketch of what you’re after, or simply ask them to repeat themselves a few times so you can get the gist of the message.
4. Find Beauty Everywhere
When traveling, it becomes natural to admire everything around you because everything you’re seeing is new and different in some way. You’re in a new place, seeing things for the first time, and therefore differently than when you look at your everyday reality. The sights, the people, the food everything is intriguing. Of course it’s easy to say “find beauty everywhere” when you’re exploring a new place and see something beautiful every corner you turn.
5. You’ll witness first-hand that the planet is delicate and needs our stewardship
We don’t need to tell you that the planet as we know it is being irreversibly altered. Climate change is real, and all across the world weather patterns are becoming more erratic, environments are changing and wildlife species are being lost. Travel changes that. Head to a beach in Sri Lanka not commonly visited by tourists and you’ll find rubbish.
To travel is to take a journey into yourself! Travelling helps you rediscover yourself and the world around you all over again. It makes you a better person and helps you understand different people and their ways of living in detail. Certain things in life can be understood not by reading or learning about them but only and only by experiencing them. Our lives are never certain, our destination is unknown to us as well but, the journey is what we must make memorable. It’s only when we come back home and rest ourselves on our beds, will we realize how truly amazing travelling is and how much it has given us.
